Recently the single page websites have become very popular. Considering that only a few years ago a single page would have seemed unfinished, it is interesting to see why this type of a website is desired now.
Probably there are a number of factors, but I think the most important is the way the mobile devices are changing the industry. Nowadays people using mobile devices to browse the Internet don't really click on menu tabs - they scroll down most of the time. Advances in technology make it possible to build a page that scrolls smoothly down, an animated action that matches to the habits people have acquired while using mobiles.
Another factor is that a single page website is more content focused. The important information is at a glance and the website users get to what are looking for faster. A typical one page website has some information about the company, contacts, a map, a contact form, and some information on products or services - all in one page.
Of course the single page websites certainly can't hover all the needs. But they are pretty much suitable for photographers, musicians, artists, designers - people who don't necessarily have tons of words to say, but they do have priceless things to show.
